<image:title>The Nursery - Throughout the summer and fall we have clam seed available for sale directly from our on-land nurseries ranging from 1-2mm to plantable size: 12-17mm. At the end of the season, in late fall, we plant nursery size seed in our bay nurseries and can have large plantable seed available for the following spring. We can custom sieve your order for a specific size.</image:title>

<image:title>The Nursery - In 2010 we finished construction on a new on-land nursery on Great Bay at Cape Horn Marina. The new facility proved to be a great addition to our existing nursery operation in West Creek, NJ. The hard clam and oyster seed produced by our hatchery are reared in the nurseries at both sites in upwellers and raceways, maximizing our seed production. In 2018 we added FLUPSYs to our system at the Cape Horn nursery and have had good success in growing oyster seed with them.</image:title>

<image:title>The Nursery - We pump water directly from the bay to our nurseries. The clam seed grow in raceways and feed on the abundance of phytoplankton that naturally occurs in the productive Great Bay Estuary. At the end of the summer/fall growing season, seed ranges in size from 1/4 inch to larger than 3/8 inch.</image:title>

<image:title>The Hatchery - Our hatchery is capable of producing large quantities of clam larvae to fill our nurseries to their capacity near the end of the growing season. Bayfarm has been spawning and rearing Hard Clams or Northern Quahogs (Mercenaria mercenaria) for over 20 years. In our hatchery, the larvae are kept in sterile and controlled settings to ensure survival.</image:title>

<image:title>The Hatchery - Larvae and post-set clams are fed cultured microalgae, throughout their time in the hatchery. Our broodstock have been selected over the years to produce quickly-growing and hardy offspring. We also spawn and rear Atlantic Oysters (Crassostrea virginica).</image:title>

<image:title>Education and Outreach - Here at Bayfarm we are dedicated to conservation of the bay and estuary that provides so much for us. We are also eager to educate the community about clam farming as well as the benefits it contributes to the environment. If you would like to visit the nursery when it is up and running (June through November) please contact us. We are more than happy to give tours during operational hours. We welcome school groups as well as curious individuals alike.</image:title>
